Is Planning Permission Required for a Concrete Garage?

We would advise contact with your local Planning Department prior to ordering your garage.

As a consequence of being considered a temporary structure, precast concrete sectional garages generally do not need planning permission.

However, that need not necessarily apply to your specific building, and the best advice we can offer, is that you contact your local authority planning office to discuss if you require planning or not.

Cupar Garden Centre cannot be held responsible for any planning issues should you decide not to consult, should you decide not to consult with your local planning department.

Generallly planning permission is required where on of the following conditions are met.

1.

The proposed building goes beyond the front elevation of your house (unless you have a very large front garden).

2.

More than half the area of your garden is covered by the proposed building.

3.

The building is more than 3 metres high, or 4m if an apex roof.

4.

The garage is within one metre of your existing house wall.

5.

In the case of the Lean-to range, where the building is going to be attached to the wall of a dwelling.

You may not need planning permission, but may fall under building regulations if:

1.

The floor area of the building exceeds thirty square metres, or the total cubic area of the building exceeds seventy square metres.

Cupar Garden Centre can supply basic dimension and specifications for your garage and a pictorial representation of the the finished item. However the provision of detailed drawings (if required) is the customers responsibility.
